Greetings, everyone!

Probably a weird question here…I searched the site and didn’t find any previous discussions on this.

I am due to get an armband in about a week-and-a-half. I thought I had figured just about everything: which artist in town, the design, etc. Even which arm. But then it occurred to me: I wonder if there are any unknown connotations out there about which arm a guy sports his tat on? I know this is old-school, but back in the day, for guys wearing earrings, there used to be the old standard – “Left is right and right is wrong” – meaning straight guys got their earrings in their left ears and gay guys wore theirs in the right ear. May sound funny, but that’s the way it always was.

Anyway – just wondering if there are any street connotations like that regarding tats. I will probably pose this to my artist, too, just to be sure – I don’t want to get my tat on the “wrong” arm, only to find out about it later.

Sorry for the goofy question – thanks for any help!

I have not heard of any meaning behind the location of an armband, this is not to say that there is a meaning.

Some tattoos have meanings if placed on certain parts of the body but these are mainly traditonal designs like swallows on the chest for travelling a certain amount of miles by sea, put a swallow on the arm and it is often used for loyalty and trust, the same swallow on the neck always used to mean that you had been in jail.

To be honest almost every tattoo design now has so many different meanings it can be quite a headache figuring it out, you like it you want go get it mate.

Never heard of any thing like that for tatts , did have my left ear pierced only .I would probably go my right arm if i was to just get one tattoo ...

Just a thought on your arm band , do you think in the future you will want any other tattoos on that arm , maybe a sleeve , a bigger tattoo ??
Can make it hard later with a band on there ......

I love arm bands. Would love to get one myself, but being a girl, my mum and my boss would be lining up to kill me...LOL
I have no idea if there is a meaning for it though

Thanks for the advice. I don't see myself going for a sleeve or anything like that, so I think the armband should suffice for me. I've found a design I really like, so that's what I'm gonna go with.

Good tip, though -- thanks!
