Got my first tatto done today, and I'm rather disappointed. What I wanted was two entwined hearts (2 line outline about 1/2" wide, 1 colored red and 1 blue) and the text "As One" beneath it. Well, I got all that and more. The artist knew I wanted one red and one blue - there was no shading or highlights on the transfer when I approved it, but it was there when she was done. And since it was done high on my chest, I couldn't see what she was doing while she was doing it.
She says to give it 4 weeks to heal, come back and she'll "make me happy". Is that possible when she added black shading inside the colored portion of the hearts, in the open space inside the hearts and below the hearts and white highlights inside the hearts to "keep it from lookin flat"? I've read enough to know the shading can't be covered with a lighter ink and I don't know if you can put a dark ink over white ink without it bleeding through.
Is it normal for an artist to add on to a design without asking the customer? I know the release I signed included the agreement that the tat might not look exactly like the transfer once it was on my skin, but I think this is more than just that.
I guess I'm wondering (a) can this tatto be saved and (b) was what she did normal practice? If she had asked me about shading or highlights, I would've said NO but she never even asked.
