so for those of you keeping score at home, i met with a shop owner last night, he was cool, and he was cool with me and my artwork although we both agreed i should be spending as much time as i can working on my drawing. any way he says the deal is this...he will take me in teach me the ways of his shop, help with my drawing, teach me proper sterilazation, needle making and such. he'll teach me proper tecnique, witch needle groupings to use, when and where you know, everything i need to know to properly tattoo. then by about 4 to 6 months get me started with machines doing small tattoos. then he said he'll get me licenced somewhere between 9 to 12 months at that point i can work full time in his shop. he says he'll be glad to do all this for me as long i'm dedicated, do the work, and pay him $3,000.00. dose this sound right? i've read many times in diffrent places that an apprentaceship will cost anywhere from 3 to 5,000 dollars. so is standard practice or what, cause i really need to know. thanks.

That's awesome! congrats! for someone to get you started and training you in that amount of time for $3000, that's pretty good value. I don't know where your located but where I am at it is usually closer to $500 and takes minimum 1 year. You've snagged yourself a deal! good luck! show us some of ur artwork one day...

Sounds about right to me. Make sure whoever is teaching you is reliable and you guys mesh really well. Tons and tons of stories out there of people paying for apprenticeships and getting screwed. It's a racket for a lot of tattooers out there. I wish ya all the luck in the world though!
