All I know is that Rotary machines are more reliable and much lighter, but they apply the ink better as well! If you are going to get rotaries, it couldnt hurt to start out buying the Stealth from Worldwide. They are pretty much knock off Swiss rotaries, but in my opinion that run just as well. I think they are still going for about 120 a piece. So that's not too bad.
I am not too sure about the other machines, sorry. |

Thanks for the advice on rotarys. Ive seen the stealth ads, but I get nervous
cause it seems that anything under 3-400 dollars the so called "pros" seem
to think are pieces of crap. Also the horror stories of suppliers. I know in
general you get what you pay for, yet none of the machines seem that
different.(4 - 500 $ different anyway!) So I appreciate your experience and
advice. |

Found yourself a sucker huh? I couldn't sleep at night if I ripped someone off that hard.
Oh wait, I just saw you are in s. Korea... busted out the good old currency convert yeah, 52 cents USD sounds pretty reasonable for a scratcher.
I can see you trying to charge $400 an hour, I just cant believe anyone would be fucking stupid enough to pay that.
The most I have heard ANYONE charging was $250 an hour and that is fucking insane. For insanely good work though.
The average rates in the US are around $100 - $150 an hour, depending on location and individual artists.
You expect anyone to believe you are such a sick tattooer that you bill out at $400 an hour?
Enough nerd rage for now! I am going to go learn more about my new hobby, bonsai trees. Yep, probably gonna fuck up a couple trees, but at least they are plants and I'm not charging them for it! |

Hahaaa! Whatsamatter, that piss you off? that someone who didnt go thru the "formalities" of apprenticeship should get paid so much? I saw your work on myspace, yeah, ya chubby bastard, it wasnt nothing to hold on a pedastal, quite simple to say the least, nice colors but thats about it, the actual art in it's self was quite plain. the guy i did saw some art i drew awhile back and wanted it done, however he was getting stationed back to the states a couple days later so i told him i could do the out line but wouldnt have time to complete the fill of solid black but he can always take a print out of MY original and have it filled in, this is it....

And this is the tattoo outline of it...

I prefer being called fatty fat fat fat, over chubby.
The style I have been cautiously developing over the past 6 years is founded in traditional american tattooing. Simple, clean, bold.
Which is directly opposed to that cluster fuck of an outline on your boy's arm. Thank god you posted that poorly drawn original, without it there is no telling what that mess of an outline is.
I want the tattoos I do to look good in 20 years. That pile of ***** is going to be totally unreadable in 2.
Whatever you charge doesn't matter to me. Maybe my point was somewhat lost. I think it is silly for you to be charging double that of the best tattooers in the world, when clearly you have no clue what you are doing. The fact that you think you are worth that makes it even more funny.
If you notice, prior to this thread the only mention of money I have made here is in commenting on starter kits and Chinese made garbage supplies. Not to brag about how much I spent on a machine, but to imply a difference in quality between real equipment and what is available to the general public.
I will tell you this about my income though. I make enough to put my wife through college, pay the bills and keep enough in the bank so I wouldn't have to work for around 3 months if something terrible happened. I blow the rest of my income on books, art supplies, equipment and most importantly food... you know, cause I'm a fat bastard.
PS: You say "MY" original in reference to that shitty drawing you made. Are you trying to imply any of the tattoo's on MY myspace are not originals? I have 20 photo's posted in that gallery. Of those 20 there is one design I did not draw, and one other design that is a modified piece from a sketch book that was fairly widely published.
You get bonus points if you can figure out which design is straight off a sheet of flash.
Everything else on there is custom. |

What is the original sketch of?
I understand the stylization you were going for, but I think you drew it haphazardly. I don't work in that comic book style at all, but that cross hatching looks sloppy as all hell.
The anatomy is fucked. To exaggerate certain features fits with the style, but some perspective of proportion should be maintained to better tell the story of what your beast is.
The frontal bone is not tall enough to be human. The zygomatic bone is also far to high and and protrudes too far out the sides to be human as well. Those parts of the skull are much closer to the structure of a chimpanzee skull, but the ridge over the eyes doesn't protrude far enough for a chimp.
How about those eyes. They are way too far apart to make sense for any primate skull. Maybe that beast has some wolf blood in him too or something.
That kinda makes sense though, because the upper teeth are much closer to a wolf than a primates. You know, because there are 6 teeth between the canine's instead of 4 like you would find in a human skull.
The bottom teeth and jaw look like they came off a fucking t rex or something. The perspective makes it look narrow and long.
Both rows of teeth are pretty much straight across, adding to the flat look of the mouth in general.
The bottom lip looks like it's off some sort of snake or something, which is better than the completely missing top lip. He must have lost his top lip on account of the under bight.
The forehead is just a lumpy mess. I am kinda feeling bad for this monster with that unexplainable cellulite build up in the middle there. Nice to see the botox worked out for him on the lighter side though. I hate to see what he is hiding in that shadow though.
That nose is crooked as fuck, and whats up with those nostrils?
The only thing I am sure about in this creature is that it uses a fuck ton of roids, I mean look at the size of its neck! It's fucking HUUUUUGE. most bodybuilders don't even have necks like that!
Yeah, that ***** is pretty poorly drawn. It's all over the fucking place. |

Like you said, you dont mess with the "comic" style artwork, so therefore you wouldnt know what you were lookin at, your trying to rationalize it as if it were a photo of a real existant animal, or a representation thereof. The nose doesnt have to be perfectly strait, you've watched boxing before right, seen there noses? The upper lip, wich you so dimwittedly said was "non-existant" is drawn up tight in the obvious snarl he's got on his face, so it's obviously not going to be hanging down loose. as for the rest of your obvious attempts at trying to downplay to picture, i know for a fact that the facial features are obvious for what they are and why. Nice try though
Lets see you try something other than your Hello-Kitty stuff with detail like this and see how well you do. |

I didn't give you a technical critique because I do not have a deep understanding of that particular style.
I do know that your cross hatching is sloppy as *****. Which only tells me you have a very limited understanding of that style yourself. Looks like some high school art project.
Prove me wrong. Tell me what you used for reference. Tell me the story behind your beast and why it does not resemble anything found in nature.
Your drawing flat out doesn't make any sense.
Because of the mouth it reminds me of Venom a bit. Do a google image search for Venom. Exaggerated mouth, crazy eyes, huge tongue. The basic anatomy remains intact. So a painting/drawing/sketch of Venom tells me a story. He is obviously a man turned into a monster.
At the very least Venom as a fucking upper lip. You cant snarl harder than that dude, and he still has an upper lip.
If you want to give my work an honest critique go for it. To compare my work to Hello-Kitty is completely dishonest. In fact, I would love to see you stick Hello-Kitty on someone and pull it off perfectly clean, there is zero room for error on ***** like that.
Prove me wrong. |

| you do know what cross hatching is for right? it's to give a shaded appearance from a short distance away from the viewer, the lines dont have to be perfect to bring about this affect, you can also see this in certain styles of painting, standing up close it doesnt make sence until you back away then the picture comes into view with distance. The face is supposed to depict rage/animalistic fury, everyone's face distorts it's self into odd configurations when in this type of mood. |

The swallow was pretty much straight off a flash sheet. Got that one right. I drew the panther, but I'm sure I referenced some traditional flash for it.
The piece right off the sheet is that "go team" retarded indian.
Yep, faces distort when people are enraged. I can even understand exaggerating parts of the anatomy to further this distortion. Your drawing however is fucked.
Every comic book I have ever read, the lines have been pretty fucking clean.
Cross hatching didn't come from comic book artists. It predates it by a long shot. And it is all very very clean. To achieve smooth blends and beautiful contours at a distance it has to be clean. |
